I build dynamic and interactive websites to underpin a business idea. I love working with startups and being involved at the early stage when there’s everything to work out and very little that’s clear cut. I’m based in Cambridge, UK.

Extensive technical experience in designing and implementing new web solutions. Software design and implementation, prototyping through to live operation. Focus on application of technology to support and enhance business activities by working at boundary between marketing and software development. Background in web, mobile, telecoms, IT consultancy and new product creation. Past experience includes C++, Visual Basic, Symbian, Windows, J2ME and Sybase. Current emphasis is on Java, MySQL and Wicket.

Contracts, Software Design and Development  (09/11 – present)
a) Hazard sensor simulator – Implemented a website to support training in use of detectors. Apache Wicket, Java, html, css.
b) Social communication platform – Technical design and implementation (http://www.saysomethinggood.com).
c) Personal communications advisor – Software development for mobile app and website for improving personal network efficiency.

Equipio.com, CTO (09/09 – 09/11) Creating social network website for a sports products startup using Java, MySQL, Spring and Wicket on Linux through Eclipse and Maven, deploying to Rackspace cloud server.

Serious Knowledge Ltd, Contractor (07/09 – 09/09) Produced roadmap for use of mobile phone channel for an existing web product. Developed sales material for Imaginatik’s core product. Mobile pre-sales for marketing solutions for an insurance company.

Guvera UK Ltd, CTO (10/08 – 06/09) Overseeing technical architecture and software build of music web site and the underpinning technology with a distributed team of developers. Design of architectural solution for highly-scalable multi-component web system. Modelling system and components, early testing of critical elements, managing and prioritising development tasks, integrating components and third party software. Hands-on development including e.g. Java, Wicket, Spring, Tomcat etc. Built and launched pre-registration web site including use of CDN.

Hutchison 3G UK Ltd (“3”), Mobile Services Specialist (9/06 – 9/08) Deployed idea management solution across 8500 users in multiple territories. Identified technologies relevant to other parts of this UK mobile network operator. Developed business case, took proposals to Product Managers, ran workshops. Liaised with international colleagues to share findings and insights. Developed prototypes using e.g. J2SE, Apache, HTML, MySQL, SMS etc.

T-Mobile International UK Ltd, Innovation Designer (1/06 – 9/06) Reviewed companies offering services and technology targeting mobile phones. Identified solutions enabled by technology to support mobile content services. Developed prototypes eg J2ME app for football and C++ Symbian app for group calling. Worked with colleagues locally in UK and with colleagues in headquarters in Germany.

T-Mobile International UK Ltd, Technical Designer  (12/03 – 12/05) Designed changes for T-Mobile content download systems for ringtones, video, music etc. Act as technical point of contact for introduction of new services. Troubleshooting of issues covering handset, network and server. Technical Architect on full track music download platform including OMA DRM. Development of tools using Tomcat, Apache, Unix, JSP, SQL, HTML, XML, Java etc.

Symbian Ltd, Software Contractor (4/03 – 12/03) Provided technical advice and support to the Java team in the MIDP2 implementation of a Java Virtual Machine for the Symbian Operating System. Designed and implemented framework for automating testing of communications capabilities using J2ME, J2SE, JNI, C++ and Symbian.

Intuwave Ltd, Technical Project Manager (2/02 – 1/03) Managed business development with Nokia taking key international project to signed contract and product delivery. Wrote report highlighting business benefits of core product (Symbian, J2EE). Conducted needs analysis study with CMG senior managers. Identified and presented various product options making use of core product.

CMG UK plc, Mobile Solutions Consultant (1/01 – 1/02) Visionary lead for the mobile business team of CMG UK. Created SMS proposition to reduce credit card fraud. Implemented knowledge management system for mobile propositions. Analysed Brokat’s software for Mobile Wallet RFQ bid to Vodafone. Specified demonstration system for Environment Agency.

Rubus, Innovation Development Manager (8/00 – 12/00) Coordinated a team producing technical prototypes with outline business models. Researched J2ME for PDA’s. Explored voice recognition and synthesis software. Formulated cell broadcast based ‘events’ concept.

Adaptive Technology, Development Manager & Consultant (7/99 – 5/00) Led new product development. Implemented a WAP solution using J2SE. Technical presales. Managed J2EE consultants.
